Bringing You the Number Two’s!

It takes a while to get these issues done with the budget restraints we’re on, but we’re hoping with the moves we’ve made this year, that will get better. In the meantime, to all our patient fans out there, Thank You, and we want you to know we’re working. We have both Quinn-Finity #2 and Proton #2 in the Que right now! They will release this year, Quinn-Finity #2 this summer, and Proton #2 not too far behind it in late summer/early fall. Both Ruben and Brian are grinding out the art, and the quality of these books is top notch in my opinion!

If you haven’t picked up the first issues of either, we’ll be at Tidewater Comicon this weekend, May 13th,14th, at Table AA1023! We’re also in Richmond Comix, Velocity Comics, and Local Heroes, and as of right now Proton #0 and #1 are available on Comixology, with Blackhole Universe #1 and Quinn-Finity #1 available this summer!

As “proof of life” I thought it would be pretty cool to let loose some preview art from the #2’s in the works, so check these out!

We’re really excited about all the projects we’re planning on getting out this year, and we’re pushing to get them out as soon as possible, so stay tuned! Until then remember; The World is Ours to Make!

Finding our Identity

Its been a crazy road so far in the last 3 years for us here at Blackhole Comics! We’ve gone from printing a handful ashcans at Office Max to printing full sized issues in much larger print runs, we’ve got our books in multiple comic shops, and we’ve gone from selling nothing at conventions to breaking even! We’ve found some amazing artists to work with like Daniel Govar, Ruben Rojas, Brian Middleton, Luca Cicognola, Anderson Carman, Kieth Silverman, Antonio Crew, JJ Murphy, Chauncey Blakey, and John Johnston! I also like to think we found a little bit more about ourselves as well…

Our tone and our style isn’t the same as Marvel or DC, we aren’t as gritty as Image or Vertigo, we aren’t as dark or as adult as some of the other guys out there, and that’s ok. It’s not to say those sort of stories aren’t enjoyable, or even that they aren’t in our future, I think what it says is we’re focusing on light hearted superhero comics. I think that with the dark overtones in a lot of the superhero stuff out there right now, that’s a good thing.

We know that our target audience isn’t necessarily the guy that picks up 20 books a week at the comic shop, but maybe he’ll like it too, and add it to his list. We’re maybe better suited to some of the younger kids that want to get into reading comics, and need something of their own, something their generation can grow with. It’s good to know who your audience is, and I think we’re starting to figure that out. ¬†As we near completion of our 3rd different title, Quinn-Finity, we still have so many characters and so much story to tell, we can only hope you’ll be patient with us as we do our best to grind it all out!!!

Being a small local self publisher, we’re doing our best with the resources we have. We’ve come a long way, and plan to go even farther! We hope you’ll stick along for the ride. ūüėČ Until then though, I hope you’ll enjoy this teaser poster of things to come by Ruben Rojas! Follow us on twitter @BlackholeComics to get more info on the characters!

What’s Next for Blackhole Comics?

With Proton #1 finished and in print, I’m excited to finally officially announce our next book to release by summer’s end… Quinn-Finity! This will be an all ages book written by Nick Flair, with art by Brian Middleton Jr!

Quinn-Finity Promo Art by Brian Middleton Jr.
Quinn-Finity Promo Art by Brian Middleton Jr.

Quinn is a girl with a great imagination, and combined with her superhero obsession, has led to an almost infinite number of alter egos! Whether it’s the Popcorn Kid, or Razzle Dazzle, Quinn is always powered up for some super adventure! The question is though… Are these adventures all in her imagination? Or are there more Cosmic forces at work…

Writing Quinn-Finity is maybe the most fun I’ve had writing ever, and I’m excited to share it with the world! We’ll work hard to get it out to you guys as soon as we can. Taking cues from the likes of Power Puff Girls, and Adventure Time, this book is going to be pretty off the wall crazy fun! ¬†I really think you can enjoy it whether you’re 5 or 50!

Keep your eyes peeled here for updates as we get closer to release!

Proton #0

  • Heroics are often told more through actions than with words. These are the heroic actions of a man called Proton. On his home planet of Vellia, in the Cluster System, his bloodline has protected the people of his world as long as most can remember. Once per generation his lineage produces a male heir containing the Proton Helix within, and the ability to become a force for good. This is the adventure of Jo-Than, the current Proton as he battles to save his people from rare monsters and evil armadas led by his nemesis, Negaton! Written by Nick Flair Art by Daniel Govar

Written by Nick Flair and stellar art provided by Ruben Rojas, we pick up after the events of the zero issue. The dynamic of an entire star system has suddenly and drastically changed, and at the heart of it is where our story begins with two lives that were changed more than any others. Two young men claim to be the son of Proton. Is it possible? Are they both who they say they are? Will they be able to co-exist if so? Most importantly, will either of them be able to fill the role of being the star system’s greatest hero? ¬†We start to find out in this issue! Head to Richmond Comix on Wednesday May 25th and get your copy!!!

Here is a look at Covers A & B by Ruben Rojas and John Johnston respectively, the Richmond Comix EXCLUSIVE variant by Brian Middleton, and some great pages by Ruben!

It’s Time to Start the Hype For Proton #1!!!

The foundation of Blackhole Comics, is being laid down as we speak. We started in 2015 With Proton #0, and continued with Blackhole Universe #1. Now we begin 2016 with Proton #1!

If you were part of our Kickstarter Campaign, our launch at Richmond Comix, or came by our table at Heroes Con then you had the opportunity to start with Proton #0. If you didn’t, copies are still available at Velocity Comics in Richmond, B&D Comics in Roanoke, and here Digitally! In that milestone issue, we met Jo-Than and his home planet of Vellia. We learned that he was part of a bloodline destined in each generation to assume the mantle of Proton, and become the Cluster System’s greatest hero!

We also witnessed a great battle between Proton, and his rival Negaton that would have everlasting consequences. Now we pick up shortly after that story left off. There are new players in the game. new heroes, and new villains. In Proton #1 we get a larger taste of the planet Vellia, its culture, and the Proton lineage!

Here is a sneak peek at the process from pencils to final inks by the awesome Ruben Rojas!

Ruben and I are really excited to get this book out, and you should be too! We’re shooting for a late April/early May release, keep posted here for updates to make sure we’re on track! Also, if you want to pre-order a copy you can go to Richmond Comix, Velocity Comics, and B&D Comics to order it! If you aren’t near those shops, ask your shop to get in touch with us and order our titles!

We plan on having an amazing year here at Blackhole Comics as we continue to grow, so keep sending your support, and keep coming back here to see all the great things we have coming!

First Up in 2016, Proton #1!

Blackhole Comics got 2015 started with a super successful Kickstarter campaign that allowed Proton #0 to see the light of day. Now as 2016 kicks off, I’m proud to say Proton #1 will be our premiere story!

For those who weren’t able to get a copy of the zero issue, it introduced us to Jo-Than, the most recent of his bloodline to carry the mantle of Proton! Each generation his family gives birth to a single male heir that one day becomes the protector, not just of their home planet Vellia, but of the entire Cluster system and all 32 planets that revolve around their twin stars.

He faced a deadly armada set to invade and destroy his home world led by his greatest enemy, Negaton. Proton fought with all his strength, and in the end his planet and the entire Cluster System will never be the same again.

Proton #1 will pick up after the key events of the zero issue, and will further open and explore the world we only got a small taste of. ¬†The heroes, villains, and fantastic environments in the world of Proton will be brought to you by the incredible art of Ruben Rojas! If you haven’t seen his stuff yet, you’re missing out! He was recently first showcased in Blackhole Universe #1 taking on both Cover duties , and the Cynical story inside!

This is the start to a big year for us here at Blackhole Comics, as we have more books slated to release than ever before! Proton will be one of the cornerstone’s as we hope to have 3 issues release in addition to our other titles! Cynical will also return in the pages of Blackhole Universe #2, as well as his rival Guardian, and other new characters as well! We hope this ad by Ruben for Proton #1 gets you guys as stoked as we are for 2016, and the chance to explore more of the Blackhole Universe!!!

Preview: Blackhole Universe #1

The anticipation has built, the work has been put in, and the final product is so close to finished! Blackhole Universe is a multi-story platform that allows you to get a taste of multiple characters and their adventures! The premiere issue will follow two characters; Cynical, and The Brick!

The two covers , each Spotlighting one of the two characters whose story is within, were done by the talented Ruben Rojas!  Ruben is also the artist for the Cynical tale inside, and for the next Blackhole Comics Title; Proton #1! His Cynical story is one about a dark and cold man who seeks power, and will stop at nothing to grasp it.

For the second story the Brick is taken on by artist Luca Cicognola! He brings The Brick to life as he finds himself hunted by a secretive group of ninjas known in small circles as the Five Headed Dragon Clan!

This is just the first issue of what I hope to be many fantastic stories helping bring the Blackhole Universe to life! Each issue will give you plenty of Wham, Pow, and Bang for your buck with the multiple heroes and villains contained within!  Check back here for updates on release, and digital purchase!
